The August 2005 issue of Consumer Reports has a half-page review of meters: Blood-Glucose Monitors — We found two excellent models. It’s on the bottom half of page 9. Their bottom line: “Consider the OneTouch UltraSmart or Ultra.”
They include a table of thirteen meters, with name, price, and annual price of strips, together with an “overall score” (ranging from excellent to poor — 2 meters were considered excellent, and one fair; the rest were in between; none was considered poor).
They also assess test results for consistency, accuracy, and ease of use.
- Three meters had consistency results of fair and the rest were good to very good.
- All meters were assessed as either very good or excellent for accuracy.
- One meter (ReliOn from the Wal-Mart chain of stores) was assessed as poor for ease of use, one was good, and the rest were either very good or excellent.
