My Diabetes (day 9)
Taking insulin (by insulin pen) at mealtimes, usually afterwards so I can count up how many units to balance the carbs, occasional "touch-up" doses (sometimes called correction doses) when it stays a bit too high 2 hr after eating, and a single dose of long-lasting
insulin every evening.
Actually it's becoming quite routine. Bit scary to say that, as one of these days (sooner or later) I expect I'll have one of those rip-roaring insulin reactions where you not only "crash" but "crater".
Again, many thanks to everyone for the words of sympathy and support.

Well, I've been T1 on insulin for 8 years now, 3 years on R + NPH (shudder), 5 years on Humalog + Ultralente.
I've crashed, but never "cratered". Perhaps a hypo serious enough to require assistance is in my future but I haven't come close yet (HbA1c in the "5%" club for 5 years now, 5.6-5.7 every time lately)
I will be switching to Levemir when it becomes available. I happen to regard the fatty acid-solubility parameter approach of Levemir to be far superior to the pH-isoelectric point approach of Lantus, Ultralente and Lente. Levemir will require more shots but I think it will be far more uniform.
