My Diabetes (day 31)

It's now been over a month since I was diagnosed as having the Big D. My BGs now stay mostly in the low100's (highest in the 160's). I'm checking my BGL about 6 or more times/day and giving myself shots about 5 times/day.

It's about time for my recheck with my endo (and find out what the lab tests showed). The lab was supposed to send them directly to me, but I haven't gotten them yet (I had to fill out a form and sign it when the blood was collected, and they said it would have to be done every time!). Anyhow, while writing this, I called the lab, and learned that 2 weeks isn't enough time to expect the results. The stupid form (required by our friendly Federal gov'mint) has to be faxed to their headquarters, and an approval received from their lawyers (!) before the results can be released. (Full employment for attorneys -- at least this way they're not out there suing physicians...) So I expect I'll get the results from my endo before I get them from the lab!

1 - Dr. Bill,
You set up a wonderful blog for byetta users. We all are thankful to your great website. Why don't you try byetta yourself. Yes, for now, diabetes is a progressive disease. But at least byetta shows it can help beta cells regeration/preservation in animal model. Afraid of side effects of this new drug? Good luck! (Comment this)

2 - I am on my second month of Byetta and My first month of the 10 pen. When I started the second pen, I noticed that fluid was leeking from the needle when I removed it from my skin - not just one drop but several. This never happened with the first pen. I even left the needle in my skin for longer than called for. I called the number and they send me a voucher for a new pen. I got the new one at the same pharmacy not more than a week after I got the defective one - and it is doing the same thing. I have used it for almost 2 weeks now and really have to wonder if I am getting the proper dosage. I also wonder if the whole lot was defective and thats why both pens I used leak. Has anyone had this problem? (Comment this)

3 - Make sure that all the air bubbles is out of your pen before injecting. You may have to lose a couple of doses for them to get out. I use the bd ultra fine 111 31G X 5/16 do not use the needles that are shorter than this... I have noticed when I have given my self a shot that sometimes I have a little come out of the needle but I still get results. This drug has been a true miracle for me. I have lost almost 40 pounds since beginning on 8/10/06. I hope everyone else is seeing the same results as I have. (Comment this)
