Good Ol' Daze

This Discussion Forum is for discussion of memories of the "Good Ol' Daze", back when insulin syringes were reused after boiling, urine testing was the way to go, and A1c didn't exist...

Some photos of devices from the good ol' days are at the Diabetes Monitor:

Please review and follow our usual ground rules, at Ground Rules. (To share your thoughts, use the "Comments" link immediately below.)

1 - Anyone have a piciure of the urinalysis test tube and dropper of the 50's? What was that "fizzing tablet" made of ? (blue was negative---orange was 4+)
and you had your blood drawn with a BIG syringe from your vein in your arm for your blood sugar (cost$10.00 then) and found out what your blood sugars were one week later?

We all have a LOT TO BE GRATEFUL FOR these "daze" and, somehow, I don't think that people really appreciate how EASY+++ it is now"daze" to control ,monitor and LIVE---!!! The only insulins that they had back then (that I know of) was R and N... U-40 and U-80...no pills. My FIRST syringe lasted me 15 years(until I dropped and broke it.)

FOLKS>>>>>>>>>!!!!!!!!!...............
APPRECIATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!..................!!!!!!!!

2 - Ruth, Well, Ruth, I see yours is the one post on subject in this blog. Maybe, it's the name of the blog -- I had overlooked it. Anyway, I was waxing sentimental (yeah, right!) on the Symlin blog and went in search of a "remember when" blog, and, finally, here I am. I think it would be encouraging to look back on the progress diabetes management has made. Those of us who have lived through it can count our blessings that it's so much better now. And newer diabetics could take encouragement that the injustices and discomforts we suffer are just that --litle-- in comparison to what they once were. And things are going to continue to improve! I started out peeing on TesTape 33 years ago. Imagine what it will be like for us in another 30 years?!
